Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions that we didn't cover here? Call any time at 1-800-470-4964

What is stand up paddling?

It's a top-of-the-water magic carpet ride! With a super stable paddleboard under your feet and a long and light paddle in your hand, you'll be gliding accross the water on your very first lesson regardless of your age or athletic ability! Our lessons take place where sea turtles play and ocean life thrives.

Do I have to know how to surf?

No. You don't have to know how to surf! We'll be exploring the still, smooth, secluded waters of the North Shore for an awesome flat water experience. You'll be hooked!

Do I have to know how to swim?

No. We have life jackets available upon request, free of charge. Your instructor will be a certified lifeguard. You'll be in safe hands.

Am I too young, old, big or small?

Participants must be at least 7 years old and in good health to paddle solo. Younger children ages 4-6 are also welcome and will ride with an instructor. This sport is for kids young and old. There are tons of stand up paddlers well over 70 years old! Our boards can handle paddlers up to 250 pounds. We've had heavier paddlers succeed as well; we just can't guarantee the board stability over 250 lbs.

What do I need to bring?

Swimsuit, smiles and REEF- SAFE sunscreen. To protect our reef, please do not use sunscreen containing Oxybenzone, Octycrylate, or the other unpronouncable ingredients that kills the reef. Sunscreen with Zinc and Titanium Dioxide are best. Don't have some?  No worries - -we have some here for you to use.

What about rain, weather, and ocean conditions?

Hey, we're on a tropical island and it wouldn't be paradise without the rain. A light Hawaiian mist makes for great paddling. However, if it's really coming down, we'll reschedule your lesson for another convenient time. If in doubt, call first. While it's raining hard on one side of the island, it can be bright and sunny on the other. If in doubt, call us to confirm the lesson.

Likewise, if we deem the ocean conditions for the day dangerous for any reason at all, we will do our best to reschedule your lesson to another convenient time, otherwise, you'll receive a full refund.

I'm just one person. Can I join a group lesson?

Yes!

Where do I go for my lesson?

For SUP lessons, meet near Haleiwa Beach Park on the North Shore of Oahu in Haleiwa just down the road from Beachhouse Restaurant (62-540 Kamehameha Hwy. Haleiwa, HI 96712). Park anywhere along the beach and look for our AWESOME RAINBOW VAN! Click here to view map.

For Surf lessons, location varies according to conditions but will be within 10 minutes from our primary location. Expect a phone call from your instructor prior to your lesson confirming the meet up place.

How long does it take to get there?

From Waikiki, it's a beautiful 45-60 minute drive to either the North Shore or East Coast locations. On your way to the North Shore you'll pass through the center of the island, through the pineapple fields, and to the beautiful beaches of the North Shore.

From Turtle Bay Resort near Kahuku, give it about 30 minutes unless there's a surf contest, then give it 45.

From Haleiwa Town, it's like 30 seconds east/north. Once you get to the east side of Haleiwa, there's only one road that goes all the way around the island. It's on that road.

The lesson location is minutes from Sunset Beach, Pipeline, and Waimea Bay.

Give us a call and we'll be happy to give you more specific instructions if needed.

What payment do you accept?

Pay Online: e-check, Visa, MasterCard, American Express, Diners, JCB, FXSource, PayPal, Debit Card or PayPal Pay Later. If none of these options work for you, give us a call and we can make another arrangement.

Is gratuity included?

Our instructors are so grateful to receive gratuity! You can add this to your online booking simply tip them direct at your lesson. Thank you!!!

Do you do events, parties, youth groups, etc.?

You'd better believe it! In fact you can book us for the whole day and we'll give continual lessons for your party or work group. Give us a call, tell us about your group, and we'll take care of the rest.
